Kia ora George. I have never seen this rock but I am keen to go and see it one day. The photo and your information are very interesting. Perhaps you could find out what may have caused the split- may be weathering or an earthquake?
Hi Mrs O George here. I don't know what made it the split in the rock. It is a great place to visit. It is a very easy place to visit. You can hire a kayak and kayak to the rock. if you are lucky enough you may see a seal or two on the beaches around the rock
